I have been playing this game since its earliest beginnings from 199something. Recreational soccer video gaming was extremely fun, especially when played with friends and neighbors.
But from 2014, EA FIFA turned into something different along with Fifa Ultimate Team release. For those who do not know, FUT (Fifa Ultimate Team) is the most played Fifa mode and the best source of income for all EA.
FUT is a fantasy draft where you have to pay or play a lot in order to win players for your FUT Team.
Since EA FIFA team focused mostly on FUT, other aspects of the game are not advancing accordingly. Graphics, gameplay, game physics, UI changes are incremental every year. It seems that this game is about the same every year even if we have to pay for the new version every year.
And FUT is addictive as hell. Great card design, great tactical options, nice progression system are keeping us to the chair for hours. It took me years to disconnect from it. It is not fun to waste hundreds of hours playing FUT. But I’m an adult and I frankly doubt that teens are that resilient to what they consider to be entertainment.
Fifa 23 has the same recipe of the successful online games these days – progression to the top using skills or money… or both! In other words, you do not play fifa anymore, fifa plays you!
The good:
- FUT is just great (unfortunately)
- Game different mechanics and the fluidity of animations
The bad:
- The graphics are outdated
- The Menu is the same as 4 years ago
- Some bugs in the menus and FUT UI
Until EA will not have a real competition in this field, FIFA has no reason to be improved drastically. Expect about the same, every year to come.
